We at Calmglow want to reassure our patients that we are following the security recommendations in connection to our virtual office visits. Our patients’ security and privacy are a core concern. Before we moved forward with setting up a virtual office visit option, we investigated all of the issues that were originally reported with Zoom and implemented the recommended security measures.
Below are the recommendations from the FBI to ensure the security of a virtual meeting room. While Calmglow would never have shared a virtual office visit link on social media or other public venues, we realize that many of our patients are conducting virtual meetings for the first time and wanted to share the recommended best practices.
- Do not make meetings or classrooms public.
- Do not share a link to a teleconference or classroom on an unrestricted publicly available social media post.
- Provide the link directly to specific people.
- Use the waiting room feature and control the admittance of guests.
- Make screensharing “Host Only.”
Zoom has implemented changes to protect Zoom users. By default, users will now need to sign in to their Zoom account or create a Zoom account when joining a meeting with the Web client. No one can join before the Host.
Zoom removed some of its functionality, such as third-party file transfer and clickable URLs in Chat. Once it can be safely reinstated, this functionality will return.
Zoom’s more rigorous security measures and following the recommended best practices will ensure that our virtual office visits are private and secure.
If any of our patients would prefer to have their follow up visit via telephone as opposed to via a virtual office visit in a Zoom room, please let us know.
